Launch of a Tree nursery

It is without a doubt that even the educational sectors have realized the importance of trees. Marymount Teachers  College liaises with Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA), Environmental Management Agency (EMA), and Forestry Commission, and other stakeholders in the Sustainable Development Launch of Tree Nursery Project at their premises.
In a statement, Marymount Teacher’s College Principal, Mrs. Petty Silitshena said: “For the tree nursery project, we are planting exotic and indigenous trees. This is our first step to development as we are looking forward to revegetating and rejuvenate our environment”.
Statistics show that of the 363 trees that were nursed, 81 are indigenous and 282 are exotic.
Further, Silitshena said the tree nursing project has become an eye-opener for students and stakeholders because there is a clear relationship between people and the environment. People get oxygen from trees and trees get carbon dioxide from people which makes them grow.
Moreso, EMA representative, Mr. Ernest Marange, said plastics can be used to nurse the trees under the theme of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

In an interview, Acting ESD chairperson for Marymount Teacher’s College, Mr. Sam Mutandwa said: “Nursing tin’s are from used plastic packs and plastic bottles. Let us reduce waste and reuse other materials to plant trees.”
Moreover, students were excited about the program saying they are looking forward to planting more trees in the communities and teach people about the importance of trees.
ESD Club representative, Everjoice Bonyongwe, said:” Let us Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle so that we can plant trees for they help the people with oxygen”.
In conclusion, the Principle said: “We are looking forward to working with MAYA, EMA, and other stakeholders to plant more trees for a better environment”.
At this juncture, MAYA  urges people to plant trees to improve the ideological cycle which we get from trees. Manica Youth Assembly graced the occasion
