Jussa recently had an interview with Jennifer Kim from the Shantideva Center in the USA. They got connected through the Global Tree Initiative, one of MAYA’s partners.

This is what Kim had to say about the interview:

Here’s my short interview with Jussa – the founder of Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA) in Zimbabwe. They enlist the youth to protect the environment by planting trees and preventing local deforestation.

Their work is deeply inspiring! Since the people who cut down trees are mostly women in poverty, they also create projects to help these women enjoy a sustainable livelihood. While it can be so easy to blame ‘perpetrators’, they work together as a community to lift each other (and the planet) up.

Why am I interviewing Jussa? Shantideva Center has decided to donate 10% of our Annual Appeal funds to MAYA – which is an affiliate of Osel Hita’s Global Tree Initiative. Our world needs more activism and bridge-building, as we heal our minds with compassion and wisdom – which is Shantideva’s reason for existence. To heal our world, we need to heal ourselves.

Or simply smile at a stranger, pick up a piece of litter, or be kind to someone who tests your patience. There are a million ways to heal ourselves and others. 🙂”

Thank you for this opportunity, Jennifer and Shantideva center!
