Global week of Action Against Inequality

As we commemorate the week of Inequality remembered throughout the rest of the world. Mutare as a City joins the other cities which are still struggling to provide water to their residents and this has been serious especially during COVID-19 where regular and consistent water should be used to help deal with the virus.

Dangamvura has one of the longest struggles for water where residents wake up at midnight every day to fetch water and in some circumstances, women and girls are asked for sexual favors to access water from nearby sources. Residents were worried last week when City Fathers decided to carry out major maintenance at Odzani Water Works without putting in place the necessary options to get water.

Mutare is on record for suffering from cholera and other waterborne diseases which could have been avoided if proper water management was put in place. Some residents within Mutare have taps running without being closed due to vandalism for the past 20 years and such inequality with those in Dangamvura is frightening thus it should be addressed sooner. Without water in Dangamvura, it extends the level of inequalities that are happening in our backyards.
