Sakubva Bus terminus rank clean up awareness

Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA) conducted a clean-up activity in partnership with Environmental Management Agency (EMA)at Sakubva Bus terminus rank. Environmental clean-ups promote general cleanliness, and to combat diseases such as cholera caused by dirt. As the younger generation we have a role to play in climate action

Every institution should establish an Environmental waste management policy. Environmental waste management policy is a forerunner to environmental waste management clean up campaigns that will follow. In the first place why should citizens care about waste management? Waste management if not taken care of has a potential to cause environmental disasters that include health related effects such as mental health and lack of clean air to mention a few. Other impacts include river pollution of the waste in not properly managed.

As MAYA we are for the establishment of a City wide environmental waste management clean up strategy that will see the City always clean and combined efforts from citizens when waste is properly managed. Of late there has been haphazard response to the national call for clean up campaigns and let alone uncoordinated tree planting events.

In the first place, citizens should be aware of the need to plant trees regardless whether they will use it or not but someone will enjoy the shade one day. Planting of trees should be strategic with a purpose and need for institutional strengthening to mobilise resources to channel into planting trees.

Environmental waste management clean up should be coordinated by established bodies and involved grassroots so that the events are not talk shows but real response to the crisis at hand.

No one wants to stay in a filthy environment and breathing polluted air. If everyone yearns to stay in a clean environment hence everyone should support proper waste management through coordinated clean ups.
